Junior Yukon Quest 2010
Canceled for this year due to trail conditions.
Thanks to all that volunteered to help.
This year, the Junior Yukon Quest trail will provide more excitement and new
challenges for the Hams
involved in radio and support operations. As before, the Junior
Yukon Quest provides ample opportunity for interested
Arctic Amateur Radio Club members
seeking a unique event, "real" radio experience and pre-Quest training.
For both the novice as well as experienced Hams,The
Junior Yukon Quest provides
an excellent volunteer opportunity to dust off those radios, charge up your batteries
and get some "on air" experience. The
2010 Junior mushers will begin in Fairbanks - at
the Cushman Street bridge. From there, they will race to Twin Bears, where
the Junior mushers will complete a 8 hour mandatory
layover. After
the 8 hour layover, they resume the race - with a run through the hills of Two
Rivers before heading back to the Chena Lakes Recreational Area (Laurance
Road - North Pole). From there the Mushers will then run the final
leg to finish on the Chena River below the Race Headquarters in the Log Cabin
Visitors Center. This
returns the race to its original half-way layover at Twin Bears Camp with return
trip changes to allow for a more varied trail experience. The
Race is a two day event with 3 checkpoints and 2 dog drops manned by Arctic
Amateur Radio Club providing
safety and security as well as a running tally of musher positions for the crowds.
