Point Of Delivery (POD) Exercise

The POD, not only provides local Fairbanks residents with free Flu vaccinations but is integrated with Emergency Management Training involving State Of Alaska, Fairbanks North Star Borough, Red Cross, Hospital and the local AARC Ham Radio Club.  In this POD scenario, there is an ongoing mass inoculation effort occurring after some form of disaster.  All forms of “normal” communications are broken.  No phones, cell phones or Internet is available.   The AARC Ham Radio Club was called upon to setup, establish and maintain communications from the Fairbanks Emergency Operations Center to the two major distribution locations for mass inoculations; namely the Fairbanks Noel Wein library and the North Pole library.  To maintain non-public communication and confidentiality, Winlink and VHF (ham radio) was used to send privileged binary communications between the Fairbanks Emergency Operations Center and the two ibraries.  Approximately sixteen (16) ham radio operators from the AARC were involved.
